The short version
That support is what keeps this site free to read. It does not buy a better review, a higher ranking, or a spot on our "top picks" list — those are earned by the products themselves.
How affiliate links work
Some links to products and retailers on coopandclover.net are "affiliate links." When you click one and make a purchase, the retailer tracks that the visit came from our site and pays us a commission — typically a small percentage of the sale. This is a standard arrangement between publishers and retailers, and it works the same way it does at most review and recommendation sites.
We mark external product links so you can tell where you're going. Links that may earn us a commission open in a new tab and use the rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" attribute, which tells search engines and browsers the relationship between us and the retailer.
Amazon Associates
Coop & Clover is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Product prices and availability shown on Amazon are accurate as of the date and time indicated on Amazon's site and are subject to change. Any price or availability information shown on this site is not guaranteed and should be verified on Amazon before purchase.
Other affiliate programs
We may also participate in other affiliate and referral programs — including direct programs with brands and retailers, and affiliate networks that represent them. The terms are the same: we may earn a commission when you click through and buy, and it never costs you anything extra.
What it costs you
Nothing. Using an affiliate link costs you exactly the same as navigating to the retailer yourself and searching for the product. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket. We never add a markup, and we never charge for access to our guides.
Our editorial independence
Compensation never influences our recommendations. In practice, that means:
- We recommend products we have actually used or tested ourselves — not because a commission is available.
- We list the trade-offs and "keep in mind" drawbacks for every product we feature, including the ones that pay us.
- A product earning a commission never gets a better ranking than one that doesn't.
- If we wouldn't buy it again, it doesn't make our "top picks" — even if the link would earn us money.
- If a product stops being worth recommending, we update or remove it rather than let an out-of-date pick keep earning.
How we test
Every product on this list has been tested for at least 30 days in a working backyard flock. We evaluate safety, durability, ease of cleaning, and how the chickens actually respond. If it doesn't hold up, it doesn't make the site.
